Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy is physical therapy specifically for the pelvic floor. The pelvic floor is a group of muscles that make up the bottom of the pelvis and responsible for support of the pelvic organs, normal bladder and bowel mechanics and also plays a role in sexual function. A physical therapy assessment determines the function of the musculoskeletal and neuromuscular systems as it relates to physical therapy by means such as joint range of motion, motor power, posture, biomechanical function, gait mechanics or functional abilities.

Your first appointment will be up to 60-75 minutes and always one-on-one. Assessments start with a thorough history taking where we will get to know you, your health and learn about your goals for therapy. Depending on your needs, preference and consent, a physical exam will be performed which can include postural assessment, strength and range of motion testing, gait analysis, functional movement screen and an external or internal pelvic floor exam. Following an exam, you will be provided with treatment, education on your diagnosis and plan of care, and most importantly a customized home program to work on between appointments.
We prioritize patient comfort and consent during assessment and treatment. Patients are welcome to decline any part of assessment or treatment. Although sessions are one-on-one, we encourage and invite partners or little ones if desired.
